The Vegas Gaming Control Board held a three and half hours meeting with healthcare professionals. The aim was to discuss the updated guidance for reopening casinos and other operators on June 4. They also discussed the availability of hotels with no gambling facilities to host infected tourists. These tourists have been turned away by resorts because they were showing signs of being infected.
10 Las Vegas nongaming venues have been chosen to be made available as the quarantine venue for the victims. The list of the venues was not shared and will remain so for confidentiality purposes.
Guidelines to Be Followed by the Las Vegas Hotels
- Guests will be tested when they enter the resort. They will be given a 15-minute cooldown period before they can get retested.
- If guests have a temperature of over 100.4 degrees, they can be retested after the 15-minute cooldown period. If they fail the test again, they will be moved to a second screening area where their vitals will be monitored.
- The guests don’t need to wear masks but the resort will encourage them to do so by offering free masks.
Other Meeting Details
The Control Board plans to have over 400 licensed casinos and over 1000 small operators reopening on June 4. About 1243 guests were watching the meeting since it was held publicly online. Even after the meeting was done, there were about 900 people still viewing the meeting until it ended at 12.30 pm. Before the meeting, there were notices issued already about the guidelines.
Social Distancing
Most of the Las Vegas economy will be reopening in June and the city has to adhere to social distancing guidelines to keep the coronavirus numbers from going up. The city’s economy has been hit hard since most of its economy comes from the hospitality and leisure industry.
Most of the hotels and casinos will remain closed on the Vegas Strip. There will no longer be the all-you-can-eat buffets. So far, the big conventions, sports events, and live shows have not been announced on when they will be open to the public.
Some of the social distancing practices that will be adhered to at the casinos include having tapes on the floor to indicate where the players will have to stand. About 100 slots have been removed from the casinos to be able to move the remaining to adhere to social distancing.
