Long after other resorts in Atlantic City reopened, Borgata has finally announced that it will have a soft opening on July 26. According to MGM resorts, the decision to open long after the initial ban lift on July 2 was announced is due to indoor dining regulations.
In a statement from early June, Borgata claimed that the decision to stay closed was because, without food and drink, it couldn’t provide the hospitality that guests expect. However, Governor Phil Murphy won’t be budging on indoor dining for the foreseeable future.
So, the resort will be preparing to open for the next week by introducing current health and safety measures. For special guests, an invite-only “soft opening” will be hosted on July 23 ahead of the official reopening.
Atlantic City Paused
As we all get used to living with COVID-19, restrictions and public safety are the main focus of new outlets. Interestingly, this week marks the first time Gov. Murphy hasn’t lifted directives since May. Also, it might be a while before other businesses or activities are allowed to resume in New Jersey as infection numbers rise.
During a briefing recently, Murphy declared that New Jersey “won’t be jumping the gun” on opening up other sectors. This is after other states moved to let life get back to normal, and a surge of new cases immediately took over.
With over 13 000 confirmed fatalities reported, the Governor’s caution is understandable from a public safety position. So, what can casinos like Borgata do to prevent further spread of the virus between partons?
Borgata Opening – Food Truck and Social Distancing
With indoor dining off the menu, Borgata is preparing its outdoor beer and food truck garden for social distancing measures. Also, it will have a second area poolside at The Water Club. While a separate outdoor dining space for M Life Rewards members will be open.
Meanwhile, only 40% of the staff will be called back to operate within the 25% capacity limits. These staff will have to enforce mask-wearing and other hygiene standards within the resort. So, more than a week to prepare might just be enough to reopen the largest-earning casino in AC.
