Conor McGregor charged with assault in New York

Conor McGregor has been charged with three counts of assault for his attack on a bus last week. This could see the UFC superstar face jail time, as well as several lawsuits.

McGregor Throws Dolly at Bus Window

On Thursday last week, McGregor and his entourage, consisting of around 20 people, entered the loading area of the arena. At this point, according to several reports, McGregor rushed the bus carry UFC fighters who were all set to compete in the UFC 223 event that took place over the weekend. McGregor attacked the bus with a hand cart, throwing it at the bus’ window.

This broke the window and injured several of the UFC fighters on the bus. There is also a video recording which shows him trying to throw a pedestrian barricade at the bus as well. Some of the UFC fighters on the bus sustained serious enough injuries from the broken window that they were forced to withdraw from their scheduled fights.

McGregor-Mayweather MMA Rematch Even Less Likely Now

UFC is having a difficult time at the moment and is in need of some good public attention. The UFC President, Dana White, was all in favour of McGregor’s boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. It was hoped that this would bring new fans to UFC. However, following McGregor’s defeat in the boxing ring and making $100 million, he hasn’t had much interest in returning to MMA. UFC also recently lost one of its other big stars, Ronda Rousey, following two back-to-back upsets.

Rumors have continued to build that Mayweather might be readying for an MMA rematch with McGregor, but this seems unlikely to happen now. Dana White has gone on record and said that this was the most disgusting incident that has ever happened to UFC. White also went on to say that this was an extremely bad move for McGregor’s career, as he will likely get jail time and he is probably going to face several lawsuits.

There is no confirmation about what caused McGregor to act in such a way. However, the rumor is that he was angry because the UFC is preparing to strip McGregor of his UFC Lightweight champion belt, because he isn’t willing to jump in the octagon to defend it.
