The Division of Gambling Enforcement branch in New Jersey has fined an iGambling site for letting underage players participate in online gambling. On the 7th of January they were slapped with a thirty thousand Dollar fine for allowing underage players. The complaint was filed in June 2018 but the whole debacle began just over two years ago in November 2016. The scandal first broke in 2016, when the internet gambling company had just launched a new site. This site was called Play Sugar House for the New Jersey market. The story has been unfolding over the last two years and has finally culminated in a fine which some view as a slap on the wrist. How Underage Gambling Was Exposed
It turns out there were thirteen players under 21 years who were able to open accounts at the internet gambling establishment. Of those 13 accounts, only three actually managed to make deposits and the rest use the online gambling site’s promotional funds to bet and wager. This is the first case of underage gambling (which has come to light) in New Jersey.
Some are of the view that the fine was nothing more a slap on the wrist. However, what must be noted is that the New Jersey online gambling operator which runs the gambling site in question turned the information voluntarily to the New Jersey Division of Gambling Enforcement. This forthcoming attitude is likely what influenced a more lenient judgement.

The company fined came out with a statement to reiterate their commitment to legal and responsible gambling. The company put emphasis on how it prioritises following the law and took the matter seriously. They were quick to remind that they self-reported the discrepancy of the thirteen accounts themselves as soon as they realised it because of their integrity. However, the Division of Gambling Enforcement still holds them accountable because it was the online gambling operator’s responsibility to ensure there were no loopholes in the system.
