Forbes magazine recently released its updated list of the richest people in the world for 2018. There were some changes this year, notably with the richest person in the world. Jeff Bezos, from Amazon, took the number one spot on the list as the wealthiest person in the world. He overtook Bill Gates, who founded Microsoft. However, when it comes to the gambling industry, there weren’t too many surprises.
Forbes Rates Adelson as Richest Gambling Tycoon
The wealthiest person from the casino industry, according to Forbes, is the chairman and CEO of Las Vegas Sands, Sheldon Adelson. He has held this title for some time and is not giving it up. Adelson found himself in 21st position on the Forbes list, with a fortune of around $38.5 million. He was able to increase his wealth by around $3 billion during the course of the last 12 months.
Even so, last year Adelson was ranked in 14th place, so numerous other billionaires were able to do even better. According to Forbes, there are more billionaires now than ever before. The magazine says that there are 2208 billionaires. There were 259 new additions to its billionaire list, mostly from China.
Other Gambling Forbes Billionaires
As for other casino industry tycoons who made the list, Lui Che Woo was number 50 and is the second wealthiest gambling billionaire. He is very active in Macau. Third place for the casino industry was Carl Icahn. While he is mainly an investor, he does own several casino properties. His fortune was estimated at $17.5 billion, putting him number 73 on the list.
Steve Wynn is also on the list, in 679th place. His fortune is estimated to be around $3.4 billion. Despite the sexual assault allegations and the negative press surrounding him, Wynn has actually managed to increase his wealth.
