Killer Virus Threatens Macau Casinos
The recent outbreak of Coronavirus has sent Macau casinos stock plunging after tourists flow into the Chinese region fell. It is reported that approximately 80% of mainland Chinese visitors have dropped compared to the same time last year. In fact, as the Lunar New Year celebrations continue, there is a suggestion that some of the casinos in Macau will be closed. The virus outbreak is so bad that has led to workers in the casinos are required to wear face masks.
With the airborne virus having a death toll estimated at 80 people already in mainland China, it has led the government to suggest that they could order an emergency shutdown of all casinos. This wouldn’t be the first time that an unprecedented occurrence led to Macau’s government temporarily closing casinos in the region. In 2017, Typhoon Hato hit the region in Macau that left several casualties which prompted the authorities to have the autonomy to shutdown casinos in the case of emergencies.

Macau Casinos Estimated Loss in Revenue
This time of the year is one of the most profitable periods for the region. Macau’s tourism and the casino floors are packed with patrons that visit the part of the country. The Chinese New Year is a two-week-long celebration that is symbolized by fireworks and parades which starts on Jan. 25. Much of the revenue-generating from the period allows casinos in Macau to have a good standing on the stock exchange. This also applies to when financial quarters are calculated. The disruption in the flow of revenue into Macau casinos can lead to a loss in investor confident and plummeting stock in the long run
Macau Casinos Quarantine Visitors
The government has advised casinos to take extra precautions while they monitor the virus’s spread. This means that workers have to wear face masks at all times while devices that monitor player’s body temperature have been strategically employed at entry points in the casinos.
