The World Series of Poker (WSOP) event kicked off in Las Vegas last year, for the 48th time, drawing in huge crowds to Sin City. Despite the fact that poker is perhaps not quite as popular as it was a few years ago, the World Series of Poker continues to be extremely popular, with huge numbers of players being drawn to the city.
World Series of Poker Overview
The World Series of Poker kicked off on the 29th of May and will run until the 24th of July, with around 74 major tournaments taking place in Las Vegas during that time. Current estimates suggest that the WSOP will attract as many as 110Â 000 participants, who will all be doing their best to win their share of the prize pool. The 2017 World Series of Poker is believed to have nearly $250 Million up for grabs in all the various tournaments.
Any player can take part in just one tournament, or multiple if they so choose. These tournaments offer a wider range of game types and buy-in sizes, so there really should be something for everyone. There are even some rather interesting events, such as the unusual tag team tournament. In this event, a group of players will share the same bankroll and alternate playing rounds, trying to be the last team standing.
The World Series of Poker will also offer tournaments for senior players, women only, and casino employees. The event for casino employees was one of the first tournaments to take place, with a 33-year old poker dealer walking away with $68Â 000.
Plenty of Variety at World Series of Poker
There really is something for every poker player at the World Series of Poker. One of the big tournaments recently got underway, called Colossus III. This is an event designed for casual poker players and has a relatively low buy-in of $565. Despite being a more casual event, there is $8 million in prizes up for grabs, with the winner taking home $1 million. There are also events for wealthier players, such as the High Roller for One Drop, which costs $111Â 111 to enter. It’s only a matter of time until the final nine for the main event is decided.
