One very lucky NJ Player became an instant millionaire when a lottery ticket they had purchased matched all five lucky numbers from the Mega Millions draw on Friday, July 24. No other ticket matched any of the lucky numbers which makes the NJ player sole winner of the jackpot.
The winning ticket was bought from Brenda’s Inc in Bayonne, the New Jersey Lottery announced. The five winning numbers were 58, 54, 39, 33 and 8. The mega ball number was 17 and the megaplier for that draw was 3. Brenda’s Inc will receive $30 000 simply for being the retailer that sold the winning ticket, and the New Jersey Lottery organization will host a press ceremony on Monday 27 July, where they’ll hand over the cheque to the retailer.
The Mega Millions jackpot amount will be reset to the standard $20 million ahead of next weeks draw which will take place on Tuesday and Thursday as per the norm.
Mega Millions Payout Options
The NJ player is entitled to every cent that they have won. At this stage, the player has two options. He/she can decide to take the cash offer which will amount to $100,800,000. The second option is having the full $124 million paid out over 30 instalments. And, if our math serves us correct, this will equal to just over $413k per instalment.
NJ Lottery Organization Responds
Executive Director of the New Jersey Lottery organization James Carey congratulated the NJ player on his/her win in a recent press release. Carey advised the player to clearly sign the winning ticket and make copies of the original on both sides. These copies are to be stored in a safe place for their own personal records. He also instructed the player to contact the lottery headquarters via their official telephone line to arrange a claim. Lottery winners usually have up to one year to claim a winning ticket before it expires and all winnings are forfeited.
NJ Lottery Celebrates 50th Anniversary
The recent Mega Millions jackpot win comes when the New Jersey Lottery celebrates its 50th anniversary. The year 2020 despite everything else, has been good to New Jersey lottery players. Since the beginning of the year, four multi-state lottery prizes have been awarded to New Jersey residents.
Carey further stated in the release that New Jersey lottery has been on a success streak since the start of 2020 which comes perfectly timed with its 50th anniversary. In February 2020, a resident from the state of New Jersey won the $202 Mega Millions jackpot. Just two months later in April another NJ player won the $190 USA Powerball jackpot, and earlier this month someone won the $1000 Cash4Life lifetime jackpot. And now, another Mega Millions jackpot was secured by a NJ player. Carey was extremely happy for these big wins and says the organization cannot wait to see what the rest of 2020 has in store for them.
