Floyd Mayweather Favorite, Conor McGregor Attracts more Bets

The upcoming boxing match between UFC champion Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is all anyone in the sports betting industry seems to be talking about at the moment. McGregor, the mixed martial arts star, is definitely the underdog in the boxing match, which is set to take place on the 26th of August 2017. However, despite this, many people are still wagering money on him in the fight against Mayweather.

Mayweather vs McGregor Boxing Match

More Money on Mayweather, More Bets on McGregor

Bookmakers in Nevada have come out and confirmed that they have had more sports bets placed on McGregor than they have on Mayweather. However, these tend to be smaller wagers, and the majority of the money is still on Floyd. The odds for the fight currently sit with McGregor at +500 and Mayweather at -700.

It has also been revealed that at least two massive bets of $50 000 have been placed on Mayweather to win, which would return just $6250 to the player. As it stands right now, most people believe Mayweather will win by knockout.

Is there a Chance for McGregor to Win?

While anything can happen, the chances of McGregor winning are extremely small. While the UFC champion may be a good fighter, he has never boxed professionally before, and he’s going up against one of boxing’s all-time greats. Mayweather currently has a 49-0 career record, and it is highly unlikely that McGregor will break his winning streak.

Some boxing fans are even unhappy with the matchup, saying it is nothing but a publicity stunt. There are even those who have criticized Mayweather for even agreeing to a match with such an inexperienced boxing opponent.

McGregor will also need to be very careful. A former UFC champion who made the transition to boxing was killed recently after being knocked out during a match. Tim Hague took part in 34 MMA events but only managed four boxing matches before he lost his life.
