del Lago Resort and Casino has finally received a go-ahead to reduce the number of slot machines and table games. The company made the request for reduction of slots and tables at their Seneca County facility last month. This was in anticipation of future sports betting at the resort’s planned sportsbook. The approval comes from the New York State Gaming Commission. The commission came to a decision at a meeting held on Monday. Read on for more.

Del Lago’s Request to Reduce Games

del Lago Resort and Casino made a request to the state last month seeking to cut its slots by 15% to make room for a sportsbook at their 94 000-square-foot-casino. Just like other casinos, del Lago Resort was required to have a minimum of 1 950 gaming machines together with 84 table games when they opened in February 2017. However, the New York Gaming Commission this week approved the resort’s request to decrease their slots. Del Lago is planning to reduce 1 650 underperforming slots and 66 table games with plans for more cuts once the construction for the sportsbook is complete.

In March, the commission approved a similar request for two other venues; Tioga Downs and resorts World Catskills. Tioga Downs removed 50 slot machines, whilst Resorts World cut theirs by 550. However, the resorts wanted to focus on other amnesties.

The Resort’s Planned Sportsbook

The resort’s planned sports betting venue is in a bid to help improve its financial status. For the second straight year, del Lago Resort and Casino had their ratings downgraded, Moody’s Investor Services published back in January. In July last year, del Lago has penned a deal with DraftKings to open the planned sportsbook when the state in New York finally legalises sports betting.
