The Green Bay Packers are officially in a partnership with Oneida Casino. This is the first time in its hundred-year history that the NFL NFC team has had an official partnership with a gambling establishment. This is evidence of how sports betting is slowly but surely taking root in the USA. Over the last few years more states have been relaxing regulations around sports betting both online and offline. And now many casino brands are taking advantage of this new found freedom. Hence Oneida Casino made this move to secure a symbiotic partnership with the Green Bay Packers.

What else is contributing to the partnering of major NFL teams partnering up with gambling brands? Let’s unpack the facts together as we explore the Packers-Oneida partnership.

Green Bay Packers and Oneida’s Partnership Details

Packer’s VP of sales and business development, Craig Benzel, announced the partnership in the last week of August. He reiterated that the two Wisconsin brands have always had a strong history of collaboration. Making the partnership official business is just a new step towards “creating new and exciting experiences for fans in the years ahead,” he said.

Oneida Casino, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, were excited to mark it with this historic partnership. General manager for gaming, Louise Cornelius, expressed excitement over the journey they were embarking as the official casino of the Packers saying, “we are excited to work even more closely with the organization to offer unforgettable entertainment for fans, visitors and community members.”

Oneida is now branded as the “Official Casino of the Green Bay Packers”. This has been a long time coming since the casino and the NFL team first started working together over 20 years ago. Their first business partnership was some 17 years ago, which led to the development of the Oneida Nation Gate at the Green Bay Packers’ Lambeau Field. This recent official naming of Oneida as the Packers’ official casino is more of a cementing of relations rather than the start of a new relationship.

How the Easing of NFL’s Gambling Regulations Influenced Packers-Oneida Partnership

This is just more evidence example of how the lines between sports and gambling continue to overlap and the trend isn’t expected to slow down anytime soon.

The NFL’s rules for relationships between sports teams and gambling brands have become more accommodating of how sports and gambling continue to merge. An example is how another NFL team – the Washington Redskins – launched a “predictive gaming” trial app during preseason.
