FanDuel Sportsbook Opens in New Jersey

With the opening of the land-based sportsbook, FanDuel has made the transition from a Daily Fantasy Sports site to actual sports betting. Once the Supreme Court overturned the federal ban on sports betting, PPB made it very clear that they wanted to operate in the US market. PPB announced a merger with FanDuel, which would allow them to operate with a brand that was known by the American public.

New Jersey officially legalized sports betting on the 11th of June. Soon after, Monmouth Park and the Borgata Casino started taking wagers. PPB had announced that it would be providing sports betting services to Meadowlands a few days earlier, but while Monmouth and Borgata would be able to offer sports betting immediately, Meadowlands needed to wait for the Merger with PPB to be finalized.

It was originally thought that the merger would be completed in the 3rd quarter of 2018, between July and September. This would mean that Meadowlands and FanDuel would miss out on quite a bit. Luckily for them, the merger was finalized earlier than expected. Meadowlands should be in a very good position going forward. The track is just six miles away from New York City and sits alongside the Met Life Stadium. The stadium is home to the New York Giants and New York Jets.

They’re not the only DFS provider that is planning on making the jump to sports betting. Its old rival, DraftKings, is also in the process of setting up a sports book. It has made a deal to provide sports betting to Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City. It also has deals in place in New York, with Del Lago Resort & Casino. If New York decides to legalize sports betting, DraftKings will be doing battle with FanDuel in NY as well, as they have a deal with Tioga Downs.
