Niagara Falls – it looks like trouble may be brewing just across the border in Canada. The Niagara Fallsview Casino in Canada is currently working on proposals to build a new theatre. This casino has a range of table games and slots available for people who are visiting the most famous waterfall in North America and is currently planning a new theatre. However; the proposal is receiving opposition from city officials and other hotels in the area.

The New Niagara Fallsview Theatre Could Block View

The casino is owned by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Commission (OLG) and opened this $1 Billion complex back in 2004. As it stands right now, the casino’s theatre can only hold 1500 people. This has become inadequate for A-list talent. As such, the casino has drawn up plans to build a new 5000 seat theatre.

The Niagara Fallsview Casino currently has three potential locations for the new theatre and one of these is causing trouble. The problematic location would see the new theatre built on top of the casino’s bus terminal, which would block the view of the falls for the hotels built behind Fallsview.

Different Rules for OLG

Fallsview has one tall tower, but the rest of the building is only a few floors tall, allowing other buildings to view the famous waterfall. Any construction that happens on the waterfront area of the falls is subject to regulations that limit how tall a building can be. Unfortunately, as OLG is a government organization, it is not subject to the same regulations.

During the construction of the other hotels, they were assured that their view of the falls wouldn’t be obstructed. Thankfully, there are two other private areas of land that are also being considered. We hope the situation can be resolved with a solution that is acceptable to all parties involved.
