The progressive jackpot slot, Wheel of Fortune, made one gambler very happy in Las Vegas over the weekend. On Saturday at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas casino resort, a Canadian gambler got lucky and managed to win himself the jackpot. The gambler landed himself a win of $1 322 750. While not the biggest jackpot ion in Las Vegas history, we’re sure they are not complaining at all.
Wheel of Fortune Awards Big Bucks to Canadian Player
The Canadian man was visiting Las Vegas for a birthday and a bachelor party. He was visiting with his two brothers when they decided to try their luck on the casino floor of the Cosmopolitan. The man sat down at the Wheel of Fortune slot game and after about 30 minutes of gambling, won the progressive jackpot. The win is certainly a great way to celebrate a birthday, bachelor party, and Memorial Day.
However, the fact that the man is a Canadian citizen complicates how much of the money he will ultimately land up keeping. In the United States, the tax on gambling winnings is fixed. It doesn’t matter if a player has won $5000 or $5 million, the federal government will take 24%. The Cosmopolitan has to keep $317 460 for tax purposes and issued the man a check for $1 005 290.
However, he might be able to get some of this back when he returns to Canada by using a credit on paid foreign taxes on income received outside of Canada.
Biggest Las Vegas Wins
The same Wheel of Fortune slot game at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas also paid out a relatively large amount in December 2017. A man celebrating his 21st birthday managed to win nearly $500 000 just moments after arriving at the casino. The other notable payout from the Cosmopolitan Wheel of Fortune slot happened in December 2012, when a gambler won $1.36 million on a $1 bet.
These jackpots are all relatively small compared to some of the biggest wins in Sin City. In August 2017 a Californian man won just shy of $12 million while gambling at the Fremont Hotel and Casino. Even this pales in comparison to the biggest Las Vegas win of all time. This record has stood for 15 years. Back in 2003, a 25-year old player made a $100 wager on the Megabucks slot. He hit the jackpot and won himself $39.7 million
