How to Play Razz Cards Strategically

The game follows a similar structure to seven-card stud; the only difference between the two variations is the way the hand strength is determined. So, in razz poker, the lowest 5-card hand wins, whereas in seven-card stud it’s the opposite; the highest 5-card hand wins.

So, to get started, each player on the table will be dealt two cards face down (hole cards) and one card face up (door card). If you get the highest number value door card, you must post the bring in, which is a forced bet or a full-sized bet before you reach the 4th street.

If two or more players have the highest door card, then the bring in will be determined by suits. Once all the betting is completed, the face up 4th street card will be dealt to each player and the one player with the lowest showing hand has to act first.

Thereafter, the 5th street will be dealt and the bet size for the remainder of the hand doubles. The 6th street is also dealt face up and thereafter is the 7th street which is dealt face down. If you’ve started the betting round on the 6th street, then you get to act first on 7th street.
