American Roulette – Home Grown Roulette

American Roulette is, as the name suggests, an American version of the popular casino table game. The game of Roulette was originally invented by accident by a French physicist. The Roulette wheel originally had a single green 0 added to the wheel in order to give the casino an advantage.

This was needed so that the casino could make money. Without this 0, players could just choose red/black or odd/even and have a 50:50 chance of winning. American Roulette is available at popular online casinos in the USA.

Roulette makes the journey to the New World

As Roulette gained popularity in Europe, it eventually made its way across the Atlantic Ocean to the United States. However, despite the single green 0 giving American casinos a slight advantage over the players, they weren’t happy. With a single 0, the house edge is 2.70%, so American casino owners decided to modify the game to improve their house edge.

They did this by adding an additional green 00 to the wheel. All the other numbers, 1-36, remained the same. Half of the numbers are red, half are black, but this additional 00 improves the house edge to 5.25%. Doubling the house edge for the casino.

Should you play American Roulette?

The fact of the matter is this, from a player’s perspective, a lower house edge is always a good thing. For this reason, if you have the opportunity to play European Roulette instead of American Roulette at an Internet casino, we highly recommend you do. In fact, if you get the chance to play French Roulette, its house edge is even lower, than that of both American and European Roulette.

At the end of the day though, American Roulette is almost identical to the other versions, with the exception of that additional 00. Most of the bets are the same along with the layout of the betting area matching that of European Roulette. Players will likely have just as much fun playing American Roulette. However, just keep in mind that you’re likely to win money less often, which can make it more difficult to walk away with your winnings.
